Prakrti Living Environment is a full spectrum Architecture, Landscape & Interior Design firm based in Kochi,Kerala, established in 1998.
Prakrti Environmental Design Consultancy and Paushtika Architectural Design Consultancy were conceived as sister concerns working in tandem to produce contextual building designs, process-oriented landscape designs, tasteful interiors and meaningful renovation designs that cater to the functional requirements of their users. In 2020, the two sole proprietorship firms were incorporated into a design and property development company called Orangerie living environment (P) Ltd.
Prakrti Living Environment have more than 350 clients over the twenty-seven years since its inception, with many repeat and follow-on projects. The studio excels in design of projects involving environmental analysis and planning, design of the land, and ecological design – such as vacation homes, hospitality and campuses. The deep knowledge of Indian context and conditions, leads to its strength in climatological design, environmental analysis, planning & landscape design, ecological planting, and other disciplines requiring such local knowledge and expertise.
At Prakrti Living Environment, we approach each project holistically and work in a hands-own way customizing very project following a fundamental design philosophy.
Functional approach: We believe that the aesthetics of all our projects should derive from its function, client directed, program-driven and site-driven. The starting point of all our design is the functional program, which we strive to integrate into the setting that we create for it.
Context-driven: Contextual and circumstantial parameters are considered in the synthesis of all our designs. The new created environment always reflects its context – social, cultural and ecological.
Responsible design: We believe that just as the natural environment is the physical expression of the many ecological processes that sustain it, so also, the man-made environment should be the result of a stable equilibrium of many processes that occur within it. In any given site, we start by being aware of the imbalance that is bound to be created in the ecosystem by our intervention. And we strive to bring in a new balance by way of our designs. In other words, our designed landscapes along with their buildings, are based on process rather than a final product; they are designed to be active and adapting rather than passive and still in time. In order to achieve this, we place a lot of importance on analysing the site thoroughly in terms of factors like runoff, wind-flow patterns, ambient temperatures, vegetation, local ecology etc.
